Crafted from high-quality ash wood, this GDR design classic is an outstanding example of the functional, honest aesthetic of the late 1950s and early 1960s. The piece impresses with its ingenious, two-part architecture: The lower section is designed as a closed cabinet with hinged doors, offering ample, discreet, and lockable storage space for documents or files thanks to the original lock and matching key. The upper section opens as an elegant display case, whose sliding door tracks are in perfect working order. Thanks to its versatile design, this cabinet is ideal as a bookcase in a study or as a stylish display case for glassware, porcelain, and collectibles in the living room. The historic Hellerau stamp is located on the back; while slightly faded due to age, it confirms the piece's genuine provenance. We have thoroughly restored and professionally sanded the bookcase, bringing out the characteristic, light, and vibrant grain of the ash wood. The piece bears honest marks of its history: despite careful sanding, subtle, age-related wear remains on the doors, lending the piece its authentic vintage character.
