Its most distinctive feature is the substantial travertine base, constructed from a progression of angled stone slabs that overlap in a stepped formation. The repeated slabs create depth and movement while showcasing the warm ivory tones, natural pores, and subtle variations characteristic of travertine.

A circular glass top appears to float above the stone, supported by a contrasting gunmetal structure. More than a visual statement, the top rotates outward to expand the table from 37.5” to 46”, revealing the design's ingenuity and altering its silhouette. A lower half-moon tier in smoked glass extends from the opposite side, adding both usable surface area and a dramatic dark counterpoint to the travertine.

The interplay between the heavy, tactile stone and visually weightless glass is particularly effective. Straight, sharply defined travertine slabs are balanced by the sweeping curves of the glass surfaces, while the dark gunmetal elements visually connect the two.

Produced by Italian manufacturer Lapalma, the Zeus reflects the period’s interest in unconventional forms, contrasting materials, and transformable furniture. Its kinetic construction and bold sculptural base elevate it beyond a conventional coffee table, making it a compelling example of Italian Postmodern design.
