The exterior is decorated throughout with ornamental metal studding, creating a striking contrast against the aged brown leather. The distinctive domed lid gives the chest a traditional travelling-trunk appearance, while stile feet raise the body slightly from the floor. The coffer retains its original metal hinges and carrying handles. It also retains its key and the lock remains in good working order, with the hasp requiring downward pressure when locking. Opening the lid reveals a beautifully upholstered interior, providing generous storage while adding an attractive decorative finish to the inside of the chest. Presented in fair antique condition and structurally sturdy, with knocks, marks and general wear consistent with age. A very small area of historic woodworm activity to the underside has previously been treated and is no longer active.
