Designed as an enlarged version of an ordinary matchbox, the piece retains its maker's branding and striking panels to the sides, together with the original extra-long matches inside. Originally intended for shop display, its exaggerated proportions and surviving original contents make it an unusual example of early 20th-century commercial advertising.
