The exterior is finished with brass mounts, rivets, clasps and lock hardware, with the fittings stamped “l.v.” the central lock is additionally stamped “louis vuitton” and “made in france.” opening to reveal its original beige interior, the trunk retains the louis vuitton maker’s label bearing serial number 757613 and the “70 champs-elysées” address. The underside is fitted with four brass wheels, originally intended to make the substantial travel trunk easier to manoeuvre. Louis vuitton established his own paris workshop in 1854 after developing his skills as a specialist trunk maker. The company became particularly associated with sophisticated luggage designed for the changing requirements of international travel during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This example remains in original condition and displays marks, surface wear and patination consistent with its age and history of use. These characteristics contribute to the authentic appearance of this early louis vuitton travel piece.
