Of tapered form, the chalice is hand engraved with foliate and stylised motifs and features a baluster knopped stem raised on a circular stepped base. The presentation inscription reads: "To be presented to J. Cooper. By messrs Holroyd Bros. For best Foal by 'Black Prince' Rothwell", dated 1879. Maker: Roberts & Belk Hallmark: Sheffield 1877 Material: Sterling Silver Country of Origin: United Kingdom Period: Victorian Date of Manufacture: 1877 Diameter: 7.2 cm Height: 15.0 cm Base Diameter: 6.8 cm Liquid Capacity: 220 ml / 7.74 Imperial fl oz Weight: 126.5 g Condition: Repair to the stem, which holds fast.
