Designed as a countertop cabinet, the piece incorporates eight pull-out drawers arranged within a compact architectural case. Each drawer contains sectioned internal compartments originally intended for the organised storage of plant, herb and other apothecary specimens. The drawer fronts retain their original polished brass knob handles, providing an attractive contrast against the warm colour and natural grain of the walnut. Originally designed for use within a French pharmacy or apothecary, cabinets of this type combined practical organisation with robust craftsmanship. Its numerous compartments make this example particularly versatile today, whether used for collections, jewellery, documents, artists’ materials or other small objects. The cabinet has excellent decorative presence while remaining conveniently proportioned for use on a countertop, desk, sideboard or larger table. Presented in good antique condition with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its period.
