The figure is sensitively carved with flowing robes and traditional ecclesiastical detailing. Traces of the original painted decoration remain visible in places, providing an attractive glimpse of the sculpture's earlier appearance and adding to its historic character. The substantial solid-oak construction gives the sculpture considerable weight and presence despite its relatively compact proportions. It was reportedly originally associated with a church setting, although its precise provenance is undocumented. Presented in good antique condition considering its age. There are historic woodworm holes which have previously been treated and are reported to be inactive, together with age-related splits, losses, knocks and surface wear consistent with approximately two centuries of history.
