19th-century solid wood bench chest from Auvergne, traditionally placed near the fireplace or cantou. Part of the seat lifts to reveal a useful storage compartment, while the back and armrests form a simple, sturdy structure.
One side retains an old repair, well integrated into the piece. The wood around it shows heavier wear and marks, possibly reflecting long-term exposure to the heat of the fireplace.
