Executed in the distinctive blue-and-white palette, the decoration reflects the profound influence of imported Chinese porcelain upon English ceramic production during the 18th century. The Worcester factory was established in 1751 under Dr John Wall and his associates and rapidly became one of the leading English porcelain manufacturers. This bowl dates from the factory's early production in the mid-1760s. Its generous proportions make it particularly impressive as both a functional period object and a decorative display piece.
