This charming mid-century Japanese lidded confectionery box (kashiki) features a classic multi-toned colorway, marrying a vibrant cinnabar-red exterior finish with a glossy, deep black interior coating.
The lid is beautifully adorned with a hand-painted, festive Shochikubai (Three Friends of Winter) motif, prominently showcasing delicate white plum blossoms (ume) paired with stylized geometric green patches representing resilient pine and bamboo elements. A smooth black finial tops the rounded lid, adding both a structural accent and a clean contrast.
Completely smooth and unmarked on the base, this attractive household container perfectly channels the casual, welcoming elegance of Showa-era design. It makes for an exceptional standalone decorative vanity box, tabletop trinket holder, or culturally rich accent vessel in modern, eclectic, or Japandi-style interiors.
