The fall front is attractively cross-banded, providing a subtle decorative contrast against the rich mahogany and emphasising the carefully balanced proportions of the piece. When lowered, the fall forms a practical writing surface and reveals a thoughtfully arranged interior. The fitted interior incorporates multiple pigeonholes and storage compartments, providing excellent organisation for correspondence, stationery and smaller personal items while preserving the traditional character of the bureau. Below, the generously proportioned drawers provide substantial concealed storage. Their fronts are similarly enriched with decorative cross-banding and retain their original brass handles and fittings, complementing the warm tones of the mahogany. The bureau is raised upon elegant splayed feet, giving the substantial cabinet a graceful and beautifully balanced silhouette. Particularly attractive is the mahogany itself, displaying pronounced natural grain and figuring throughout, complemented by deep, lustrous colour and an appealing aged character.
