A rare and exceptional mid-century folk art piece titled "Persian Horse" by listed Southern Appalachian artist and craftsman Fannie Rebecca Mennen (American, 1903–1995). While Mennen is widely celebrated for her paper block prints, she was also an accomplished textile artist and a prominent member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild.
This highly unique piece features her iconic "Persian Horse" design block-printed directly onto a textured woven fabric panel. The graphic, stylized black ink contrasts beautifully with a shimmering, mottled metallic background integrated into the textile fibers, allowing the piece to subtly catch the light.
The lower margins of the fabric are hand-titled "Persian Horse" in pencil on the lower left and hand-signed "F. Mennen" on the lower right. The piece is housed in its vintage, period-appropriate black wooden frame with a fabric mat liner, accentuating its textile origins. A magnificent find for collectors of Southern Appalachian crafts, mid-century folk art, and vintage textiles.
