This exceptional example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving presents a luxurious interpretation of traditional design, characterized by its deep, saturated indigo field. The restrained use of color is a hallmark of high-quality blue color rugs from this period, offering a serene foundation for any sophisticated environment.

The primary field features an elegant, tone-on-tone geometric trellis pattern, subtly rendered in varying shades of deep sapphire and midnight blue. This technique creates a rich textural depth that prevents the expansive field from appearing monolithic, demonstrating the refined artistry found in exceptional antique rugs.

Contrasting sharply with the solemnity of the central panel is the broad, luminous border executed in warm saffron and pale gold. This frame is densely populated with traditional Chinese auspicious symbols, including stylized peonies, bamboo shoots, and various emblems of longevity, rendered in soft apricot and teal accents.

Woven with a dense, plush wool pile, this piece retains the superb structural integrity characteristic of the finest 1920s production. Its substantial dimensions qualify it as one of the highly desirable room size rugs, capable of anchoring a grand interior space with historical elegance and sophisticated color. See less
