These design reflects the Art Deco period of the 1930s and the evolution of the chair having cleaner and flexible lines. Where its early origins were generally designed for gentlemen to relax, drink and network, it was towards the nineteenth century well-to-do household had rooms, spaces that weren't designated for the kitchen, bathroom or bedroom.
