A handsome collection of three coordinated vintage Terragrafics picture frames, distinguished by substantial weight, richly raised ornament and an antiqued gold-tone finish with blue-green accents. Two upright frames and a horizontal double frame create a graduated arrangement accommodating four photographs.
The decoration draws upon the elegance of French Louis XVI design: ribbon-tied floral festoons, crossed-ribbon molding and leafy architectural cornices above stepped bases. A scallop shell crowns the tallest frame, a winged cherub presides over the smaller oval opening, and paired shells ornament the double frame. Their complementary silhouettes give the collection a cohesive presence while allowing each piece its own character.
Terragrafics was an established decorative-frame brand, registered for picture frames in 1977 and known for supplying upscale designs to specialty and department stores. These frames retain the Dakin-era branding, including “A Dakin Company” portrait inserts. A 1988 copyright appears on the frame itself, with 1989 copyrights on the inserts, supporting an estimated late-1980s to early-1990s date. Following its acquisition by Holson Burnes in 1990, Terragrafics continued within the company’s upscale frame portfolio.
Beautifully suited to a country-house library, mahogany secretary or bedroom dressing table, the trio brings warmth and sculptural detail to a personal photograph display.
