An exceptional piece of New Orleans hospitality history, this authentic Reed & Barton silver-soldered teapot bears the ownership mark "Solari's La Louisiane" and an elegant SLL monogram, linking it to one of the most celebrated dining establishments in the French Quarter.
Founded in 1881, La Louisiane Restaurant was among New Orleans' most distinguished culinary destinations. The restaurant traces its origins to the influential Alciatore family, the same family responsible for the legendary Antoine's Restaurant, one of the oldest and most famous restaurants in America. Fernand Jules Alciatore, nephew of La Louisiane founder Louis Bezaudun's family and a member of the famed Alciatore restaurant dynasty, managed and later owned the restaurant, helping establish its reputation for refined French and Creole dining.
In the early 1930s, ownership passed to the renowned Solari organization, one of New Orleans' most important gourmet food and hospitality enterprises. The Solari family had built a reputation for imported foods, fine wines, specialty groceries, and restaurant operations that helped define New Orleans dining culture for generations.
Produced by Reed & Barton specifically for commercial service, this heavy silver-soldered teapot was designed to endure decades of use in a first-class restaurant environment. The underside retains the original marks:
REED & BARTON SILVER SOLDERED 2301 C 2P SOLARI'S LA LOUISIANE
Its handsome utilitarian form, substantial weight, and authentic wear reflect the golden age of American restaurant silver. Unlike ordinary silverplate, Reed & Barton's silver-soldered wares were manufactured for luxury hotels, restaurants, clubs, and dining establishments where durability and presentation were equally important.
Today, surviving examples bearing identifiable restaurant ownership marks are increasingly scarce. This teapot represents not only a beautiful decorative object, but also a tangible artifact from the storied history of New Orleans dining, connecting two legendary names: the Alciatore family of Antoine's and the Solari family of La Louisiane.
A remarkable acquisition for collectors of New Orleans memorabilia, restaurant silver, hotelware, hotel silver, Creole culinary history, and French Quarter antiques.
