A striking matching pair of archaic-style bronze vases adorned with finely inlaid gold wire forming elaborate peacock feather motifs. Each vessel is sculpted with twin peacock head handles, and the flared rim is shaped as fanned peacock tail plumage. Ancient Chinese inscribed characters decorate the bulbous body, with scroll gold inlay trimming the foot base.
The deep aged verdigris patina of the bronze contrasts elegantly with the shimmering gold inlay. In Chinese symbolism, the peacock represents nobility, beauty, dignity and good fortune. This balanced pair makes an impressive symmetrical mantel, console or display cabinet centerpiece for chinoiserie interiors, and is a coveted collectible for enthusiasts of ancient Chinese bronze craft.
