Elegant solid bronze meiping vase featuring intricate high-relief carving and silvered overlay depicting the Four Mythical Beasts of ancient Chinese cosmology: Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise.
The vase body is covered with fine scrolling floral engravings. Four large shaped cartouches showcase each sacred beast, finished with shimmering silvered details that contrast beautifully against the dark patinated bronze ground. The shoulder and base bands are decorated with continuous floral scrollwork.
The Four Mythical Beasts are powerful auspicious symbols representing protection, balance, strength and good fortune. This substantial heavy bronze vessel works wonderfully as a statement tabletop centerpiece, mantle decor, or focal piece for chinoiserie interiors. It is also a coveted collectible for lovers of Chinese bronze art.
