The slender cylindrical case is finished with wonderfully aged dark metal mounts and a whimsical little bird perched at the clasp, as though guarding whatever treasures might be tucked inside. The lid is decorated with a tiny floral bouquet framed by a scalloped blue border, and the underside bears a mysterious hand-painted blue mark reminiscent of early French porcelain markings. Originally intended for sewing needles or other small personal necessities, this romantic little piece would be equally lovely displayed on a vanity or tucked among a collection of antique French treasures.
