Exceptional vintage Danish Modern round coffee table featuring a beautifully detailed blue and white ceramic tile top attributed to renowned Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad. The tabletop showcases a charming central illustration of a woman holding a bird, surrounded by delicate floral motifs arranged in a striking circular geometric pattern. The ceramic tiles are set within a natural wood frame supported by four tapered legs. A wonderful combination of Scandinavian craftsmanship, artistic expression, and Mid-Century Modern design. A distinctive statement piece for any sophisticated interior.
Bjørn Wiinblad (1918 – 2006), was a Danish painter, designer and artist working in ceramics, silver, bronze, textiles and graphics. His work was widely exhibited in Europe, the United States of America in 1954, and then in Japan, Australia and Canada in 1968. Wiinblad was named Man of the Year in New York in 1985 and received the Cultural Award from the Scandinavian-American Foundation in 1995.
Among Bjørn Wiinblad’s many achievements, we can note the illustrations he made for Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Pig Boy”, the posters of the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen or the Royal Danish Ballet. He also designed porcelain for Rosenthal and his textile work has been used for the costumes of many ballets.
