Symbolism & Design:
The censer is rich in Buddhist and auspicious Chinese symbolism:

The Body: The main vessel is shaped as a large, multi-petaled lotus blossom. In Buddhism, the lotus represents purity, enlightenment, and rebirth.

The Lid & Finial: The domed lid is topped with a finely detailed, seated Buddhist Lion (Foo Dog), a symbol of protection and power.

The Handles: The sides of the censer feature ornate, scrolling chilong (small dragons) acting as handles, clinging to the stem of the lotus.

The Base: The vessel rests on a flared base, also decorated with overlapping lotus petals. See less
