Symbolism & Design:
In Chinese culture, the Foo Dog (Shishi) is a powerful symbol of protection, power, and good fortune. The lion is depicted standing firmly with a fierce expression, a flowing mane, and a curled tail. On its back rests an elaborate incense burner with a domed lid featuring pierced openwork (for smoke to escape) and topped with a decorative finial resembling a flaming pearl or lotus. The sides of the vessel feature ring handles and intricate relief carvings of floral and geometric motifs. See less
