This vintage wood bowl is a large, free-form sculpture carved from a single burl-like piece of timber. It is built as a double-lobed vessel, with two connected basins that spread out like a pair of leaves or a bivalve shell. The rim rolls and ripples in soft, irregular waves that rise and dip with no two curves alike, and the inner walls sweep smoothly down into shallow, hand-hollowed wells. Each lobe rests on a short, flared, trunk-like foot carved from the same block, so the form appears to grow out of the wood itself. The grain is the star: tight swirls, eyes, and flame-like patterns in amber, honey, cinnamon, and deep mahogany flow across the surface, with darker figuring along the edges and pale, golden highlights where the light strikes. The glossy finish is smooth and warm, with a mellow, aged patina and a few fine surface checks that confirm the natural material. The bowl is generous, tactile, and unmistakably handcrafted, an organic centerpiece that reads as sculpture first and vessel second.
Broad and eye-catching, this bowl suits a dining table, coffee table, console, sideboard, or kitchen island, where it can hold fruit, keys, or decorative objects, or stand alone as a sculptural accent. It complements Organic Modern, Mid-Century Modern, Coastal, Japandi, and Rustic interiors. The bowl measures 22.5 inches (572 mm) wide, 23 inches (584 mm) deep, and 6.5 inches (165 mm) high. Condition is very good: the original wood finish shows a rich, warm patina, with minor surface scuffs and light wear, and the piece is structurally sound with no visible repairs or losses. For care, dust with a soft dry cloth, avoid soaking and harsh cleaners, and refresh occasionally with a food-safe wood oil or wax. Keep away from direct heat and prolonged sun, which can dry and crack the wood. Inquire today to add this sculptural piece to your collection.
