This gilt bronze inkwell, resting on a crimson marble base, features a refined Art Nouveau figurative decoration depicting a delicately draped woman, lost in reverie on a chaise longue with intricately carved legs. The removable sculpture serves as a lid and lifts to reveal an interior bronze tray incorporating two perfectly preserved original glass inkwells. The piece bears the engraved signature of the artist, François-Auguste Marotte, near the inkwells. The exquisite chasing of the drapery, the realism of the furniture's ornamentation, and the superb contrast between the gilt bronze and the marble base make it a particularly elegant and decorative collectible desk item.
