Pair of large wall brackets in carved, painted and gilded wood, Italian work from the 17th century, 111 cm high.
These large pieces are decorated in the Baroque style with broad acanthus leaves on the fronts, following the curve of the wood, and scrolls on the exterior sides.
The interior surfaces are smooth (not carved).
The gilding creates a striking contrast against the brown painted wood background.
These 17th-century wall brackets likely originated from an altarpiece in a chapel or oratory in Italy. They show signs of age-related wear: chips, losses and replaced rear rails.
These pieces are offered for sale without the tops.
