This display cabinet features an asymmetrical design, combining open shelves, a glazed compartment at the top, and a small cupboard below. Its amber-toned bamboo frame encloses dark wood panels and shelves.

The cupboard door is decorated with delicate motifs of flowering branches and a bird. The raised edges of the top shelf and the geometric stretchers emphasize the overall Japanese influence.

This decorative piece was designed to hold books, ceramics, and collectibles. Its style evokes the productions of the late 19th century, in the spirit of the Aesthetic Movement. Estimated date: circa 1880–1900. Maker unknown.

The Aesthetic Movement was an artistic movement, primarily British, that developed around 1860–1900 during the Victorian era. His central idea is "art for art's sake": the pursuit of beauty for its own sake. This vision extends to painting, but also to furniture, textiles, and interior design.
