This magnificent example of Chinese Art Deco weaving captures the sophisticated aesthetic of the Jazz Age. The expansive field utilizes a deep, saturated indigo, making it a striking piece among blue color rugs. Its generous dimensions classify it perfectly as a room size centerpiece, designed to anchor a major living space with profound color and historical elegance.

The design is characterized by a dramatic contrast between the quiet navy center and the vibrant, wide magenta border. This bold color pairing is highly characteristic of the period, demonstrating a modern sensibility applied to traditional Chinese composition. The sparse, asymmetrical placement of elements, including stylized flying birds, creates a dynamic sense of movement across the surface, a hallmark of the Art Deco movement's departure from rigid symmetry.

Delicate sprays of chrysanthemums, peonies, and prunus blossoms define the corners and edges, showcasing the detailed knotting technique. These stylized depictions are classic floral rugs motifs, yet here they are rendered with a distinctly Art Deco flair, emphasizing clean lines and rich saturation. The high-quality wool pile enhances the depth of the dyes, allowing the intricate botanical details to truly flourish.

As a prime example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving tailored for the Western luxury market, this piece offers both historical provenance and enduring decorative appeal. It stands as a testament to the refinement found within truly exceptional antique rugs, perfect for a collector seeking a statement piece that bridges Eastern tradition and Western modernity. See less
