This exceptional example of Chinese Art Deco weaving captures the transitional aesthetic of the period, moving away from traditional dense patterns toward open, dramatic fields. The piece is characterized by its striking palette, centered on a rich, saturated purple field, a hue highly prized in the early 20th century.

The design utilizes the characteristic Art Deco approach of asymmetrical balance and bold color blocking. A deep indigo border frames the purple field, creating a powerful visual contrast. Scattered across the field and corners are stylized floral sprays, vases, and symbolic objects, rendered with a graphic clarity that distinguishes these early 20th-century Chinese productions.

Woven in China during a period of significant export activity, this piece demonstrates the high quality of craftsmanship applied to these decorative textiles. It stands as a fine example among antique rugs, showcasing how traditional weaving techniques were adapted to meet the demands of Western modernist interior design.

The generous dimensions of this textile classify it among room size rugs, making it perfectly suited to anchor a sophisticated living area or dining space. Its luxurious sheen and vibrant, yet refined, color scheme offer a statement piece that bridges the elegance of Chinese tradition with the dynamism of the Art Deco era. See less
