Dating to the late 1950s golden era under the design direction of Nehemiah Azaz, this exceptional piece showcases the studio's celebrated brutalist-influenced aesthetic. The exterior features a matte, textured cream slip body decorated with bold, hand-painted abstract brushwork in black underglaze, accented by geometric blocks of muted blue and gold. The piece offers a beautiful contrast with a glossy, metallic-brown glazed pedestal foot and a deep, high-gloss black glazed interior.
The underside is completely hand-marked, reading: “· HARSA · ISRAEL · HAND · PAINTED ·” alongside model shape code “231” and a distinct stylized decorator mark.
An exceptional, highly collectible example of mid-century Israeli studio ceramics that perfectly anchors a modernist credenza, shelf, or tabletop display.
