A beautifully detailed, limited-edition wood engraving after Frederic Remington's 1890 illustration Teaching a Mustang Pony to Pack Dead Game, originally published in Harper's Weekly.
What makes this print particularly special is that it was printed in 1975 directly from the original 19th-century woodblock used to produce the engraving during Remington's lifetime. Unlike modern photographic reproductions, this is an actual impression pulled from the historic printing block, preserving the intricate linework and character of the original engraving.
Morgan Press used the surviving block to produce this limited edition of 1,950 impressions, associated with the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art and The Collector's Guild, Ltd.
The lively Western scene depicts cowboys struggling to train a young mustang to carry a dead antelope. Individually numbered, with Remington's signature in the image and the museum's embossed seal.
Attractively presented in a wood frame with warm beige matting.
Note: The original backing label remains attached but incorrectly identifies the subject as Thanksgiving Dinner for the Ranch, another Remington composition in the series. The correct title for this piece is Teaching a Mustang Pony to Pack Dead Game.
