This set of six vintage pedestal bowls is a lively study in folk-art color against dark, earthy clay. Each bowl is a shallow, wide-mouthed dish with a softly rounded rim, raised on a short, flared, trumpet-shaped foot. The lower body and foot are finished in a matte charcoal-black that reads like burnished or smoked terracotta, with warm brick-red clay showing where the surface has worn. A broad band of hand-painted decoration encircles the upper wall of each bowl, and no two bands are identical. Some feature zigzag and stepped-tooth borders in turquoise, coral-red, golden yellow, and soft pink. Others show diamond and lozenge lattices in sky blue and white, dotted with tiny yellow accents and outlined in black. The paint is flat and chalky, with visible brushwork and slightly irregular lines that confirm the hand of the maker. Fading, small flakes, and exposed terracotta along the rims add a weathered, collected patina. The cohesive palette ties the set together while the pattern variations keep it playful. The interiors are left dark and plain, so the colored bands stand out.
Compact and cheerful, these bowls suit a coffee table, console, bar cart, or open shelf, where they can hold nuts, candies, keys, jewelry, or votive candles, or sit as a grouped vignette. They complement Rustic, Boho Chic, Eclectic, Southwestern, and Organic Modern interiors. Each bowl measures 6.25 inches (159 mm) wide, 6.25 inches (159 mm) deep, and 3.25 inches (83 mm) high. Condition is good: the painted finish shows age-appropriate wear, fading, and some chipping, and the bowls are structurally sound with no significant damage. For care, dust with a soft dry brush or cloth, avoid soaking, and keep the painted bands away from water and abrasive cleaners. They are best for dry items.
