This rare hand painted Mid 20th Century artwork came directly out of a Naples Florida estate and is an ORIGINAL watercolor/gouache painted on board with exquisite detail and fine brush strokes, signed L. Miller in bottom right corner. Strong wire on verso for easy hanging.

Although the painting is Asian inspired (similar to Feng Dazhong), the artist is most likely American as it was common in the 1950s to copy rare Chinese paintings to supply high end decor shops, galleries and department stores. They signed their true western names proudly because the art was meant to be sold directly to a Western audience that preferred recognizable signatures over traditional red ink Chinese character seals or chop marks.

The image depicts a family of Chinese Tigers. Chinese tigers are recognized by their narrow stripes and short muzzle and usually are found in bamboo forests. As you can see in the painting, the forest is painted in transparent green watercolor, while the tigers are painted in opaque gouache. The matting is vintage grass cloth. The frame is AGED faux bamboo.

CONDITION:
