This exceptional piece exemplifies the sophisticated weaving of the Peking region during the early 20th century. The quality of the wool and the density of the knotting confirm its status as a highly desirable example of antique rugs.

The striking visual impact is achieved through a dramatic, high-contrast palette. A rich, nearly black field provides the perfect foil for the vibrant, stylized gold motifs that define the pattern. This use of a deep, saturated tone places it among the most dramatic blue color rugs of the period, reflecting a departure from traditional Chinese pastels toward the bold sensibilities of the Art Deco era.

The primary field features a dense, scrolling vine and stylized floral pattern, executed in an elegant, continuous manner. This allover design minimizes the traditional central medallion, allowing the eye to flow uninterrupted across the length of the textile. The composition is expertly framed by a bold, angular Greek key border, providing geometric structure to the organic movement of the interior motifs.

As a refined hallway runner, this rug offers an unparalleled opportunity to introduce historical depth and striking color into transitional spaces. The robust Peking knotting ensures durability, while the narrow, elongated format is perfectly suited for defining long corridors or entryways with a statement of enduring Chinese artistry. See less
