Decorative ceramic pine cone (pigna) by Rocco Condurso, originating from Seminara, Calabria, Italy, dating from the 1970s–1980s.
Height 20 cm, diameter 12 cm.
This sculptural pine cone features richly modelled, rounded scales and rests on an elegant circular base. Its distinctive glaze combines deep brown and bronze tones with subtle accents of dark green, blue-green and warm earthy hues. The organic design and beautiful patina give the piece a distinctive character.
In Southern Italian tradition, the pine cone symbolises prosperity, fertility, abundance and new life. Traditionally associated with good fortune and hospitality, it has long been used as a decorative element in and around the home.
A charming ceramic art object with rich symbolism, beautiful as a standalone decorative accent in both contemporary and classical interiors.
Signed by Rocco Condurso on the base. In good vintage condition, with localised wear and signs of use consistent with its age. This piece has an attribution mark,
