This exhibition poster for De Stijl, held at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem in 1977, was designed by Izika Gaon and represents a highly intellectual approach to graphic design rooted in curatorial thinking. Rather than presenting Gerrit Rietveld’s Red Blue Chair as a literal or illustrative image, Gaon reduces the object to its essential structural components, translating it into a composition of planes and lines that directly reflect the principles of De Stijl. Newly framed in professional black painted wooden frame with glass front. The poster is constructed with a strict sense of order and balance. A dominant red vertical plane anchors the composition, while black linear elements and restrained accents of yellow and blue define the chair’s structure. This deliberate reduction transforms the iconic piece of furniture into a conceptual diagram, aligning visual form with ideological content. Typography is kept minimal and positioned discreetly at the lower edge, allowing the image to remain central and uncompromised. Gaon’s dual role as curator and designer is crucial to understanding the strength of this work. As curator of design and architecture at the Israel Museum, he approached graphic design as an extension of exhibition narrative rather than as an autonomous stylistic exercise. The visual language of the poster mirrors the exhibition’s subject matter with clarity and discipline, creating a direct dialogue between historical avant-garde ideas and contemporary presentation. The poster is well documented in institutional archives and exhibition records and is widely recognized as an important example of late twentieth-century exhibition graphics and has also been confirmed by the Israel museum to be a designed by Gaon. It occupies a unique position between graphic design, design history and curatorial practice, making it especially relevant to collectors interested in De Stijl, museum posters and concept-driven modernist design. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
