The table features an ingenious four-section hinged envelope top which opens from a compact 64 x 64 cm square into an approximately 90 x 90 cm playing surface. The geometric arrangement of the folding panels creates an especially attractive symmetrical pattern when fully opened. The table is constructed from richly finished quarter-sawn oak, with particularly pronounced natural grain visible throughout the pedestal columns and folding top. The substantial central pedestal consists of two turned supports standing on a square plinth base. Four drawers are incorporated into the front of the table, providing practical storage for playing cards, counters and game accessories. Original-style metal knobs and brass-colored hinges add to the period character. The combination of the dark oak, visible quarter-sawn grain, simple geometric construction and ingenious folding mechanism makes this an appealing example of English Arts & Crafts and Edwardian furniture.
