This exceptional piece from the Peking weaving tradition exemplifies the refined elegance of early 20th-century Chinese textiles. Its generous proportions and commanding presence make it a highly desirable example of room size rugs suitable for a primary living space or grand dining room.

The expansive field is rendered in a subtle, warm tone of ivory, providing a neutral yet luminous canvas for the intricate design elements. This gentle ground color is expertly balanced by the bold, multi-layered border featuring shades of terracotta, salmon, and deep rust—a characteristic palette of the period that avoids the starkness sometimes found in later Chinese productions.

Adorning the field and framing the perimeter are delicate, naturalistic motifs. Flying birds, stylized butterflies, and traditional Chinese vessels are interspersed among trailing branches of blossoms, creating a serene, open composition. This emphasis on nature and organic forms places it firmly within the tradition of floral rugs that defined the finest Peking workshops.

The high-quality wool and meticulous knotting ensure a luxurious texture and enduring structure. As a genuine example of antique rugs from the Republican period, this Peking textile offers both historical significance and unparalleled decorative appeal, representing a superb investment for the discerning collector.
