in 1972, gae aulenti designed a family of three lamps in molded abs for artemide—the pileino table lamp, the mezzo pileo, and the pileo floor lamp—all sharing the same silhouette in three different sizes. The design dates from a time when molded plastic ceased to be merely an economical substitute and became, for italian manufacturers, a material in its own right.

this is a vintage example of the floor lamp version, the tallest of the three. It bears the original manufacturer's marking on its base: s.p.a. Artemide milano — modello pileo-mezzo pileo — design gae aulenti — made in italy.
