The vase has a flattened, rounded pillow form encased in thick, heavy clear glass that gives it real presence and weight. The dark core is filled with shimmering turquoise and silver foil inclusions that catch the light like a mosaic. Bold applied decoration covers the surface: large red-orange discs with black and amber centers, connected by flowing satin-finish yellow bands that wrap around the body. The contrast between the glossy cased glass and the frosted, matte color elements gives it a playful, graphic, almost Pop Art feel.
Guillot’s career spans more than 60 years; he was named Meilleur Ouvrier de France in 2004 and began working as a glassblower at age 14, in 1962. He is also known for his research into historical glassmaking, and was one of the first French glassmakers to recreate Roman, medieval, and 17th–18th century glass models.
