Cast from solid bronze, the piece features a rich, dark patina with remnants of a reddish-brown lacquer or pigment in the recessed areas, giving it an authentic, aged appearance.

The water buffalo stands with its head lowered and curved horns prominent, its body rendered with deep, stylized folds and wrinkles that suggest strength and movement. One boy is depicted lying prone across the buffalo's broad back, holding onto a rein, while the other boy stands at the buffalo's head, playfully pulling on its ear or horn. The figures are dressed in traditional robes and have joyful, expressive faces.

This sculpture is a classic representation of rural life and is often associated with wishes for a peaceful and prosperous future. It is a heavy, substantial piece with a beautifully weathered surface, making it a perfect addition to a collection of Asian antiques or as a distinctive focal point in a traditional interior.
