This is a magnificent pair of vintage Pixiu statues, mythical creatures in Chinese culture deeply associated with attracting wealth and warding off evil. The pair consists of two distinct figures, traditionally representing the male and female aspects of the creature.
Each statue is masterfully crafted with a striking contrast of materials. The heads, elaborate manes, and stylized cloud-like tails are cast in a rich, dark bronze with a polished, almost lacquered finish. The bodies are adorned with vibrant cloisonné enamel, featuring a golden-yellow ground overlaid with intricate, multi-colored scrolling floral and vine motifs in shades of blue, green, and red.
A defining feature of this pair is the red rectangular plaques on their chests, inscribed with gold characters. One figure bears the characters "招财" (attracting wealth), while the other bears "进宝" (bringing treasure). Both creatures are depicted in a crouching, alert posture with their mouths open, showcasing their sharp teeth. The bases are finished with dark bronze and feature an engraved seal mark. This substantial pair makes a powerful statement for a home altar, office, or entryway.
