This vintage table lamp is a one-of-a-kind assemblage, built from antique drafting tools, patternmaker’s forms, and brass fittings mounted on a shaped wooden plinth. A round wall of deep green blueprint paper, printed with fine white technical drawings, forms the backdrop. Layered concentric wooden discs in mahogany and walnut sit in front of it like a ship’s wheel hub, centered on a black knob and a small brass nameplate. A long wooden-handled drafting compass cuts diagonally across the composition. To the left stands a tall brass column with a rounded, perforated globe and a stepped, turned foot, flanked by a black cast-iron bracket. On the right, a carved wooden foundry pattern of pegs and rails adds sculptural rhythm. The brass socket rises on a curved, goose-neck stem at the top. The woods run from honey to deep chestnut, and the brass has a mellow, aged glow. A soft patina and worn edges throughout give the lamp a collected, workshop-meets-nautical character. Its kidney-shaped, molded-edge base grounds the composition with a polished, warm finish.
Bold and conversational, this lamp suits a library desk, console, sideboard, bookshelf, or a study side table, where its layered forms reward close looking. It complements Coastal, Industrial, Traditional, Eclectic, and Rustic interiors. The lamp measures 19.75 inches (502 mm) wide, 10.25 inches (260 mm) deep, and 24.5 inches (622 mm) high, to the top of the socket and without a shade. Condition is very good: the wood and metal elements show a warm patina consistent with age, with minor surface scuffs and light wear, and the brass shows slight tarnishing. For care, dust with a soft dry brush or cloth, avoid water and chemical cleaners, and polish the brass sparingly. Rewiring or electrical testing is recommended before use, and a shade is not included. Inquire today to add this distinctive piece to your collection.
