The Pantheon by Luigi Rossini. Signed and dated in the plate 1828. Unframed. Etching from Luigi Rossini's (Italy, 1790-1857) "Le antichita romane; ossia, Raccolta delle piu interessanti vedute di Roma antica" (The Rome of Antiquity, a collection of the most interesting views of ancient Rome). 1829
Luigi Rossini (1790–1857) was an Italian architect, painter, and master engraver who became one of the most prominent 19th-century documentarians of ancient Roman ruins and architecture. Graduating from the Academy of Bologna in 1813, he settled in Rome, where his work heavily captured the era's fascination with classical archeology and the Grand Tour.
The Successor to Piranesi: Rossini is frequently compared to his artistic predecessor, Giovanni Battista Piranesi. While he retained Piranesi's grand scale and dramatic play of light and shadow, Rossini's architectural depictions were noted for their rigorous historical and structural accuracy. Practicing architects often used his prints as reliable references
