Painted in an Impressionist manner, the composition captures the tranquil atmosphere of the harbour through fluid brushwork and a subtle, harmonious palette. The delicate handling of colour and light creates an appealing sense of movement and depth while retaining the spontaneous character of the watercolour medium. The work is monogrammed “MP,” as far as the inscription can be deciphered, and appears to be dated 1934. As both markings are somewhat indistinct, the artist's identity remains unknown and the date should be regarded as an interpretation of the visible inscription. The watercolour is presented beneath glass with a museum mount in a later gilt frame. The frame displays light distressing and age-related wear.
