Painted in an Impressionist manner, the work captures a maritime scene with a subtle and harmonious use of colour. Expressive brushwork and carefully considered tonal contrasts create a convincing sense of atmosphere, movement and depth across the composition. The marine subject is handled with an appealing spontaneity, particularly in the treatment of the water and surrounding landscape, resulting in a pleasing example of late 20th-century maritime painting. The work is dated 1981 to the reverse and is presented in a gilt frame displaying light distressing and wear consistent with age.
