The composition depicts a group of tribal women, rendered with an expressive, impressionistic approach and a particularly effective use of colour. Areas of thickly applied paint give the surface considerable texture and depth, while the restrained palette creates a warm and atmospheric quality. The artist's confident handling of paint and simplified forms gives the work a distinctive mid-century character. The figures dominate the composition, creating an engaging and highly decorative figurative scene. Presented in its original frame, which displays some distressing and signs of age consistent with its period. The painting itself presents well and retains an appealing textured surface. An attractive and characterful example of 1960s figurative painting, well suited to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
