A pair of sculptural wall sconces in the form of scallop shells, in ceramic with a fired gold-copper lustre glaze. The brushed application of the lustre gives the deeply pleated ribs a subtle, shimmering depth, and the scalloped rim opens onto a salmon-pink interior that warms the light, casting a soft upward glow across the wall. Each sconce takes a small tubular bulb. Unmarked; acquired in the Netherlands. A striking postmodern design with a Mediterranean, Hollywood Regency feel, beautiful as a pair flanking a mirror, bed or doorway.
