Inspired by ancient Greek amphorae, the two vases feature ovoid bodies with a black patina, surmounted by flared necks and flanked by two large swan-neck handles adorned with scrolls and stylised botanical motifs.

The bodies are decorated with figurative relief scenes depicting figures in classical dress, their lighter silhouettes standing out against the dark metal surface. These compositions are complemented by palmettes, scrolling foliage and geometric borders extending across the different sides of the vases.

The necks are embellished with delicate ornamental borders and small medallions featuring classical profiles. The moulded circular feet rest on square bases of Siena yellow marble, each supported by four small moulded metal feet.

Through the richness of their ornamentation and the contrast of their materials, these vases reflect the neoclassical taste of the 19th century and the tradition of decorative objects inspired by classical antiquity.

Antique condition, showing signs of age and use, including marks, wear to the patina and surface irregularities. One of the marble bases has a visible crack and some chips. Please refer to the detailed photographs.
