Bo Jia for Middle Kingdom White & Sand Lava-Like Glaze Porcelain Cylinder Vase
A study in contrasts, this substantial porcelain vase pairs glossy white glaze with an earthy, richly textured lower surface. Subtle horizontal throwing lines animate the upper portion, while a sandy-beige, lava-like finish creates a landscape of tiny craters below.
The clean cylindrical silhouette lets those contrasting surfaces take center stage. An irregular transition between the two glazes softens the geometry, lending the piece an organic character within its restrained contemporary form.
Beautiful displayed on its own, with sculptural branches, or alongside wood, stone, and other natural materials.
Marked “MK · BO JIA” on the underside.
Founded in 1998 by artist Bo Jia and Alison Alten, Middle Kingdom brings a contemporary sensibility to China’s rich porcelain tradition. Its pieces are handcrafted in Jingdezhen, the historic center of Chinese porcelain production, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern forms, colors, and surface treatments.
